Description
Sheath Schlüter Ditra30 30 m roll allows you to waterproof indoor and outdoor floors. Schlüter-DITRA, in combination with a ceramic or natural stone covering laid in adhesion, constitutes a system of desolidarization and vapor pressure compensation.
- It also allows you to create a waterproofing system for the support. The polypropylene sheath has a structure of hollow squares, shaped like a dovetail with an innovative “Easyfill” geometry and has a grid of “Easycut” pre-incisions on the surface.
- On the back it is covered with a non-woven fabric.
- The support for laying the sheath must be clean, flat and load-bearing. To apply DITRA, spread a layer of compatible adhesive on the support with a suitable spatula (a serration of 3 x 3 mm or 4 x 4 mm is recommended). The fiber fabric guarantees the mechanical anchoring of the sheath to the underlying glue, allowing good adhesion to the support. Pay attention to the open time of the adhesive.
- The sheath must not remain visible but must be covered with adhesion-laid coverings. The anchoring of the adhesive on the upper part of the sheath occurs through the undercut structure of the squares of the sheath. The gluing of the ceramic covering directly onto the DITRA must be carried out following the rules of good practice in force.
Summary of functions:
a) Desolidarization:
Schlüter-DITRA separates the glue-laid flooring from the support, neutralizing the transmission of tensions resulting from the different expansions between support and covering , which are therefore not transmitted to the flooring. On critical supports it also acts as a bridge over cracks, thus preventing them from reaching the surface layer.
b) Waterproofing:
Schlüter-DITRA is a waterproof polypropylene sheath with high vapor barrier capacity. In combination with a glue-laid ceramic or natural stone covering, it is possible to create a waterproofing system that protects the support from damage caused by the penetration of humidity. In this case the joints, connections with walls and fixed elements and the closure of open sides of the sheath must be made following the instructions in this technical sheet. Water exposure classes: from W0-I to W3-I according to DIN 18531-5 and 18534. The system is also supplied with abP* certification.
c) Steam pressure vent:
The intercommunicating channels on the back of Schlüter-DITRA allow compensation of the vapor pressure resulting from humid supports.
d) Load distribution:
On the floor, the DITRA sheath must be covered with ceramic tiles of a size, thickness and resistance to compression suitable for the intended use and in any case with a size of no less than 5 x 5 cm and with a thickness of not less than 5.5 mm. The sheath distributes the loads present on the floor homogeneously through the square cavities filled with glue and separated from each other by hollow ribs, transferring them directly to the support. This is why the floors laid on DITRA are so resistant. When choosing the format, thickness and compressive strength of the ceramic, to ensure adequate resistance, the stresses to be expected must be taken into account, for example the possible presence of high static and/or dynamic loads (e.g.And in commercial or public environments) and/or significant point loads (e.g.And grand pianos, shelving, pallet trucks). In this regard, we would like to point out the provisions of the ZDB in force in Germany regarding the installation of "Ceramic floors with high mechanical resistance". In areas subject to high loads, pay particular attention to completely filling the cavities between the sheath and tile and ensure that the ceramic is laid on top of the sheath with a full bed. It is good practice to protect a ceramic floor from impacts with hard objects.
e) Tear resistance:
Through the mechanical anchoring that is created under the sheath between the adhesive, non-woven fabric and support and, above the sheath, between the adhesive and square cavities, Schlüter-DITRA constitutes good adhesion of the ceramic coating to the support. Schlüter-DITRA can be used for both walls and floors. For wall installation, the use of dowels for additional anchoring may be indicated.
TECHNICAL DATA SHEET
Schlüter-DITRA is a polypropylene sheath provided with hollow ribs between dovetail shaped squares with Easyfill geometry which facilitates the application of the adhesive over the sheath and with Easycut grid which facilitates cutting. It is covered on the back with non-woven fiber fabric. The overall thickness of the sheath is approx. 3.5mm. Polypropylene is a material that deteriorates if exposed to UV rays; during storage and on site, long exposure to the sun's rays should therefore be avoided.
Material characteristics and fields of application:
Schlüter-DITRA is waterproof, does not rot and has good plasticity. The sheath has a relatively high vapor impermeability.
The material it is made of is not harmful and is highly resistant to saline, acid and alkaline solutions, many organic solvents, alcohol and oils. Schlüter-DITRA can be used in a large variety of applications and for reasons of conciseness the indications given in this sheet are intended to be of a generic nature only.
In case of particular chemical or mechanical stresses to be expected, the application possibilities must be evaluated case by case and it is advisable to request specific information from us. technical office indicating in the request: type, concentration, temperature and duration of exposure to be expected.
Warnings
The adhesives and covering material chosen for installation with DITRA must be compatible with each other, suitable for the intended use and compliant with the required requirements. Materials used for external applications must resist prolonged contact with water, frost and bad weather.
When laying floors sensitive to water (for example natural stone, resin-based tiles) in the presence of humidity in the support, for example in the case of unseasoned screeds, it is recommended to install the DITRA following the instructions on the waterproofing. When installing translucent materials, it must also be taken into account that the dispersion of the mixing water of the adhesive, used to glue the covering, is not absorbed by the support made with DITRA. When installing DITRA outdoors, special precautions are necessary, such as protecting the installation area from direct sun during installation and in the first hours after laying the sheath.
In the case of passage areas, such as those for the transport of materials, place walkway boards during construction to protect DITRA.
Warnings regarding deformation joints:
- The UNI 11493-1 standard defines the different types of deformation joints and gives indications on their placement.
- Pursuant to UNI 11493-1, the interruption of the continuity of a work is defined as a "Structural Joint", the cut in the thickness of the screed as the "Division Joint" and the interruption in the thickness as the "Expansion Joint". of the covering only.
- The standard indicates that the existing fractionation joints must be taken up in exact correspondence in the covering.
- Thanks to the function of separation and neutralization of tensions between the support and the flooring carried out by the Schlüter-DITRA sheath, it is possible not to include fractionation joints in the covering, in unheated screeds, with horizontal deformation to be expected of ≤ 2 mm.
- While respecting the backgrounds indicated in the regulations in force, this allows the Expansion Joints to be positioned on the surface with greater freedom, for example in correspondence with the joints and therefore without unsightly cuts in the tiles.
- All structural joints and fractionation joints in heated screeds must always be placed in exact correspondence in the covering, as required by the UNI 11493-1 standard. In these areas, the installation of Schlüter-DITRA must be interrupted before the joint and resumed after it. If Schlüter-DITRA is used as a waterproof system, these joint areas must then be sealed with Schlüter-KERDI-FLEX and Schlüter-KERDI-COLL.
- Please note that the Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM heated screed system does not require any fractionation joint, with no maximum limit on the extension of the room.
- Stresses along the perimeters of the floors, for example in correspondence with structural elements such as windows or walls, must be compensated through Perimeter Joints. We recommend the use of the various types from the Schlüter-DILEX joint range, for example Schlüter-DILEX-BT or Schlüter-DILEX-KSBT in case of structural joints.
