Gardena tools

Having a garden is like having an open-air work of art. But to care for it in the best possible way, you will need the right tools. And we're not talking about just any tool, but high-quality tools.

1. When to cut

The ideal time to cut hedges is in spring. In summer, however, you can trim the hedge as many times as you want, cutting the new shoots to encourage growth. If necessary, perform two major prunings: one in mid-summer and the other towards the end.

2. Tools

Be careful when choosing which tools to use. A dull tool can be harmful by crushing the branch before cutting, thus preventing healthy growth. For precision work use a manual hedge shear while for thicker branches a lopper is ideal.
  • Hedge shears – to be used for fine work
  • Loppers – for thicker branches
  • Electric hedge trimmers – for larger hedges

3. How to do it

To give the hedges a beautiful and regular shape it is advisable to use a well-tightened cable. Fix it at the desired height along the hedge and you will get a perfectly straight cut. In order for the lower part of the hedge to receive enough light, the upper part must be narrower. The rule is simple: for every meter of height, narrow each side of the hedge by 10 cm. The hedge should resemble an overturned vase.
If you are pruning to encourage regrowth, focus on the long branches in the centre, while if you are just "trimming" you can focus on profile, regularity and thinning. Start at the top and work your way down. Also, remember to fertilize the hedge to give it energy and stimulate growth.
With these tips – and with a little perseverance – you will have a beautiful and healthy hedge without much effort!

Conclusions

Investing in high-quality garden tools is a choice that will pay off in terms of time, effort and results. Don't hesitate to make the right choice for you and your garden.
